Effects of go/no-go training on food-related action tendencies, liking and choice

Inhibitory control training effects on behaviour (e.g. ‘healthier’ food choices) can be driven by changes in affective evaluations of trained stimuli, and theoretical models indicate that action tendencies may a complementary mechanism. In this preregistered study, we investigated the food-specific go/no-go tendencies, liking impulsive choices healthy participants. task, energy-dense foods were assigned to one three conditions: 100% inhibition (no-go), 0% (go) or 50% (control). Automatic measured pre- post-training for each condition. We found did not lead approach bias towards (go no-go relative control), but warrant caution interpreting finding as there are important limitations consider employed approach–avoidance task. There was only anecdotal evidence an effect liking, contingency learning during training, participants average less likely choose compared after training. discuss these findings from both methodological standpoint propose mechanisms behind further.
